Superintendent's Annual Report 1937 - P.P. Patraw, Superintendent, 1 folder, 15 Pages, 135,520 visitors. Contains: Jan 22, 1937 President Proclamation establishing Zion National Monument. Jul 9-10, 1936, largest flood since 1930. Coldest temp -15 deg. recorded in Jan 1937. Supplemental Construction on Zion - Mt. Carmel tunnel, lining project, Reynolds-Ely Construction Co. of Springville UT chosen as contractors for $226,423.95. Frank Rozelle superintendent of 2 CCC camps. CCC projects: repair and construction of basket dams; tamarisk eradication; East Rim Truck trail; Oak Creek Bridge-Stone walls and abutments; Hwy cleaning and maintenance; vegetation transplanting and landscaping at cafeteria (Nature Center). Employee cabin: additions to administration facility. Dec 1936, Virgin River Bridge (between Hurricane and La Verkin) begun. Charles A. Gerrard, storekeeper for Zion Died on Jul 5, 1937. Elsa F. Ruesch, Clerk stenographer for six years resigned, Jun. 30. Maintenance Activities. Ranger Activities: no major accidents; 14 traffic accidents; 4 falling accidents; 35 industrial accidents; 7 misc. accidents. Official visitors. Instructions for completing Annual Report submittals.
