Superintendent's Annual Report 1930 - E.T. Scoyen, Superintendent, 1 folder, 17pp, 55,297 visitors. Contains: Completion and dedication of the Zion Mt Carmel Highway and tunnel. Drought conditions. Jan 9-18, 1930 record snow fall, 27' at Temple of Sinawava. Jan. 10, 1930, death of Western Air Express pilot Maurice Graham. Completion of Pine Creek Bridge and River Bridge (Canyon Junction) Bridge. Tunnel opened for vehicle traffic on Jan. 3, 1930, dedication ceremonies July 4, 1930. Speeches: Mr. Horace Albright: B.J. Finch; Thomas J. MacDonald; dedication by Utah Governor, George H. Dorn. Zion Lodge 5 new deluxe cabins and 2-150,000 redwood water tanks. Jan 29, 1929, pres. Coolidge issued an Executive Order withdrawing approx. 13 Sections of Land around South East corner of park--to be introduced to Zion National Park. Largest Flood in recent years September 4, 1929, basket dams and dikes added. West Rim cabin built. Thomas C. Parker was acting Assistant Superintendent. Fatalities: Abin Brooksby and Eugene Cafferata.
