ZION 15652 Superintendents Annual Report 1941

Description:

Superintendent's Annual Report 1941 - Paul R. Franke, Superintendent and John M. Davis Assistant Superintendent, 1 folder, 2 pages, 175,480 visitors. Contains: May 14, 1941 at 7:50 a.m. the largest landslide in Park's history occurred 1 mile up Zion Canyon from Park HQ (Canyon Junction). Blocking Virgin River and taking out 500 ft. section of road. Return of Paul R. Franke Aug 16, 1940 to replace ailing Supt. C. Marshal Finnen. Russell K. Grater hired as Assist. Naturalist, Sep 16, 1940. Easter Pageant discontinued due to objections from the Mormon Church. 20 bathroom additions to standard cabins. Torrential rain storms occurred Sept 6 and 17, 1940 causing damage to roads, water systems, bridges, and trails. CCC's started employee dormitory which was 85% complete the end of Jun 1941. WPA, completed one NPS sponsored road improvement. Water rights were purchased from the Crawford Ditch (.96 Acre Feet of water), from James, John R., and John W. Crawford.
