Superintendent's Annual Report 1958 - Paul R. Franke, Superintendent, 1 folder, 12 pages, visitation over 1/2 million mark. Contains: Mission 66 planning - decision made for location of new Visitor Center and park roads. Mission 66 construction consisted of: reconstruction of Weeping Rock trail, $5,600.00; Temple of Sinawava comfort station construction, $14,100.00; construction of water and sewer at Temple of Sinawava, $12,000.00; Reconstruction of Grotto Sewer system, $6,500.00; connection of trailers for temporary employees, $1,200.00. Apr. 28, 1958, Zion-Mt. Carmel tunnel sustains serious damage from rockfall above gallery #3 Maintenance start having regular safety meetings. Glen Canyon Dam Construction increases travel to park. 2,000 acres of in-holding land purchased, but 10,921.85 acres of privately owned land remains in park boundary. Purchase of Langston inholding of 1,653.42 acres was a problem. Trucking regulations and fees put in place to control truck use on Zion-Mt. Carmel highway during heavy tourist season.
