Group portrait of Davis, Beers, and Army men who climbed Mt. Davis in 1891. "Only Dr. Beers went with me. We slept on the snow at timberline and suffered much from cold even with a good tamarack fire. The thermometer was 12 above at 2a.m. The trip took us two day from Agnew's quartz mine about 6 miles from the Juaquin Soda Spring. Beers gave out & did not cross the last gorge to make the last 2,000 feet. This was the hardest climb I ever made. Harder than Popocatapetl, 1887." *See also, the entry under Davis, Mount in Place Names of the Sierra Nevada, by Peter Browning.
