"It was necessary to supplement the regular Yosemite postal staff with ten extra clerks to handle the first day covers of the new National Park Service 1 cent stamp. Distinguishable in the background are (standing left to right): Postmaster F.C. Alexander (dark rimmed glasses) Mr. Charles F. Anderson, Post Office Dept., Washington (Profile), and Robert E. Fellers, Division of Stamps Supt. (silver belt buckle). On Monday, July 16, the first of the National Park stamp series, the Yosemite 1 cent stamp, with El Capitan Rock predominant, was put on sale; on that day, half as many one cent stamps as are ordinarily sold in Yosemite in a year were cancelled on letters. First day covers went all over the globe." From the July 1934 monthly Superintendent reports.
