“First-day Afternoon
Dear Brother Richard
As we did not go to meeting today I thought I would write to thee. I expect to go to Clyde this evening with Amos he has to go to see his [Carriages?] and so mother said it would be a good chance for me we will return in the morning, it is raining very hard indeed just now but it is nothing but a shower. Lucinda Amoss wife has had a Frog Fellon on her hand but is now well we have had very hot dry weather for the last week or so. we are harvesting at Moshers now when has thee heard from Aunt Catharine? We expect the girls Seventh-day. Has thee Heard of Susan Doty death? Charley Mclintock has gone our there. we think he is after Harriet Doty wouldnt it be funny to see cousin Charley with a wife. I must say good bye from thy
Affectionate Sister
Sally”
“Dear Brother Sarah has written all the news I beleive and left nothing for me to say. Joseph [Watkin, Matkin] had a few strawberries as large as a hens egg but we did not get any of them he took them to the store. we have had peas but they are pretty old now. Our strawberries are all gone we had but very few. The red cherries are most gone and the black are just coming. Aunt Lydia’s girl Margaret has just left her she came home First-day and said she was married. Sarah is just starting for Mary Vail and Mary Abbey is not home for I shall be all alone. [ ] Day has come home he started for California and was shipwrecked he did not make anything I guess. Aunt Eliza has bought Mr Wilhams house. she expected Eugene to go but he went away without telling anyone. It has been very warm this week. I cannot bear such hot weather Sarah has not been to school for some time on account of the weather, and it is not a very good school I guess. Write soon the baby is criying farewell thy affectionate sister Mary. "
“When thee writes to Cousin Charlie dont say any thing about his visiting Farmington perhaps he would not like it if he knew Sale had said any thing like visiting H Doty in particular so be careful we tease him about her but perhaps there is nothing to it I think it very doubtful that was a nice letter thee sent to Charlie thee is improving very fast.
Mother”
