“Waterloo March 8th
Dear Brother and Sister
We have recieved Mary’s very acceptable letter to-day and were glad to [hear?] from Syracuse Mother said she [crossed out] really did her good it was such a nice letter and so well [missing paper]sed & such good feeling & [simpathy?] but said she hoped that my [letter?] did not spoil her visit We are very glad (I at least) that we shall see thee so soon has thee visited Stephen Smith’s yet and do they not live in handsome style? I commenced going to school Third-day all goes on as usual only we have"

"not quite so many scholars as we had last Quarter and we have a playhouse in the [garret?] But this is nothing Poor little Georgie Gay’s Body has not [been?] found yet is it not dreadful [missing paper-illegible] Bodies within a week have [been?] lost 3 recovered, they had [missing paper-illegible] Clairvoyants Yesterday to find [missing paper-illegible] They both agreed in their descriptions of him [inserted “I heard”] it was thus One hand raised no hat on and one skaats gone, he was much Bloated, one said he was caught in a spike of the old bridge, which was torn down, this other he was by an Orchard and a high Bank and that they had turned him over, but tonight he"
