Though visitation to Yellowstone was lowered during World War II, many women traveled in groups to camp and recreate. These groups continued to enjoy the same activities from previous years such as hiking, camping, and fishing. As it had during the Great Depression, Yellowstone provided respite for independent motorists during a time of national anxiety.
