Charles Sumner to Thomas Crawford, 16 September 1839
Manuscript letter
[Addressed to]: “T. Crawford Esq. / Rome.”
[Ink annotation in a different hand]: “Charles Sumner. Florence / Sep 16. 1839.”
Florence Sept. 16th ‘39
My dear Crawford,
I have ventured to assure my friend Mr. Minot that you would have pleasure in going with him to the Vatican & in pointing out to him some of the wonders of your art in Rome. Talk to him about sculpture & [p. 2] art, & shew him the Orpheus . You will find Minot interested in these things, & I promise both of you pleasure in each other’s acquaintance.
I trust the orders have begun to flow in. That they will arrive soon I do not doubt. At all events believe me ever,
very sincerely Yours,
Charles Sumner
T. Crawford Esq.
