Frances (Appleton) Longfellow to Harriot Coffin (Sumner) Appleton, 7 January 1857
Manuscript letter
Dear Harriot,
I send back the silver all right with many thanks and in your cap box a handkerchief which by the initials I know to be Mary Warren’s. Hatty can give it to her.
I hope you & papa & Hatty are none the worse for your expedition into the cold & that the latter enjoyed the party as much as I did. So much young [p. 2] blood poured into this old house seemed to make it renew its youth & thrill with an unaccustomed glow. I trust no colds will make the dancers regret their Cambridge visit. I was greatly annoyed by the gas accident but am thankful cheerfulness was restored.
Love to all
Ys afftly
