Frances (Appleton) Longfellow to Zilpah (Wadsworth) Longfellow, January 1845
Manuscript letter
Dearest mother,
Will you accept, as tokens of our love & best wishes, these muffs, which we earnestly hope will prove a true comfort to you in your severe climate? I suppose you do not often venture abroad during the winter, but perhaps these may encourage you to do so, & will, at least, bring us [p. 2] warmly to your remembrances.
We are delighted to hear, from Annie, that the New Year has opened brightly upon you, & trust it may continue to deal with you more kindly than its predecessors.
With much love from Henry & Charlie
believe me ever affly yrs
Fanny L.
Cambridge.
