Inscription: "AWL [illeg], from N.A." written in ink in cursive verso. "Lamson / Portland, Me." printed in gilt underneath image; photographer stamp includes "Lamson" printed in red ink diagonally verso.
Notes: C1878. May be one of the "preferred photographs of Longfellow made at the Lamson Studio in 1878" ("Near to Nature's Heart with a Camera," Board of Trade Journal, Vol. 18 (1905), p. 131.) "AWL" in inscription is either Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Sr. or Jr. "N.A." is possibly Nathan Appleton.
