A Japanese woman, Hana [or Hanna] Ogi, sits with her legs beneath her in the Japanese style on a small rug against a plain backdrop. She wears a checked kimono with five mon [family crests] and a haori [jacket] with dark edging at the neckline. She is holding a doll, possibly European, in her arms. On the floor in front of her are a tobacco set and a small purse. | Inscription: "Hana Ogi san" in ink in block letters by Charles Longfellow.
