Dear Friend:-
It is with pleasure I write you. I spent last summer very pleasantly on the farm trying to earn some money with which to go to school on this term. I did not make very much money through the summer for money in the south has been very scarce for two years.
I sought a school after commencement here in May. I secured one, but there was not enough money in it to pay my expenses so I entered the farm. I attended church and sunday school nearly every sunday through vacation. I am now in the A. Middle Class. I am trying to do my whole duty and trust in God for success. My way at times becomes very gloomy. Sometimes I think I shall have to quit school, then away [sic] opens for me to go further. I have no one to look to for help, but the good Lord. I donot [sic] know whether I can go through this term or not. I trust you are well ^and giting [sic] along through life nicely.
Yours truly.
Franklin P. Wheelis
