Survivors of the Battle of Little Bighorn and Their Wives in Front of the Fence Around the Custer Monument
LIBI_00019_00422; This item is an original black-and-white silver gelatin print of survivors of the Battle of Little Big Horn and their wives, standing in front of the fence around the memorial at Last Stand Hill. The photograph is 7 3/8 x 9" and was produced in 1886 by David F. Barry. The numbers 1-12 and "Barry Photo" are handwritten in white ink on the image. A sheet of paper is adhered to the verso and the handwritten notation in pencil reads: "1. Corporal Hall - 2. Sergeant [illegible word] - 3. McDougall - 4. Mrs. [illegible word] - 5. Benteen - 6. Godfrey - 7. Mrs. Benteen - 8. Dr. Porter - 9. Mrs. Godfrey - 10. Edgerly - 11. [illegible word] - 12. Scout-Crow-White Swan."
