Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer in Dress Uniform; Waist Bust View

LIBI_00019_00883; This item is an albumen cabinet card (card-mounted photograph) of Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer in waist bust view and wearing his military uniform. The photograph is 4 x 5 7/8" (4 1/4 x 6 1/2" mounted). As noted on page 137 of D. Mark Katz's book, the image was produced in 1876 by William R. Howell of New York. The photographer's stamp is printed on the front of the cabinet card. Also see catalog number 335. This item was formerly copy 2 of catalog number 332.Note: Severe foxing on the mount, and image degradation is evident.Photograph reprinted in "The Custer Album" by Lawrence A.
