LIBI_00019_00499; This item is an original albumen, card-mounted photograph of a group on horseback, with a running buffalo in the foreground, during a hunting party provided to Lord Waterpark by George A. Custer. The photograph is 4 1/4 x 6 1/4" (8" x 9 7/8" mounted). As noted on page 85 of D. Mark Katz's book, the image was produced in 1869 by W.J. Phillips of Preston, Missouri. Some fading and water stains are evident on the image. Katz identifies the subjects, from left to right, as: an orderly, Lieutenant Henry J. Nowlan, Sutler Hill P. Wilson, Captain Thomas Weir, Lieutenant James M. Bell, Lieutenant Francis M. Gibson, Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer, Captain Frederick Benteen, Lieutenant Thomas W. Custer, Captain William Thompson and Charley Thompson. On the front, a handwritten notation reads, "Same size. Send us the wood before cutting." On the verso, a handwritten notation reads, "Buffalo near Ft. Hays."Note: "Pkg #12" and "Box 5" handwritten on the verso.Photograph reprinted in "The C
