The "Monadnock" was the only monitor built at the Charlestown yard. Illustration includes a cutaway turret assembly detail showing the crew within the turret, the pilot house, turning mechanism, ammunition gantry, one of two 15-inch Dahlgren guns, and ammunition storage. Also included is a diagram depicts ironcladding technology showing layers of protection including wooden backing up to three feet thick, India rubber or felt, and cladding made up of laminated one-inch iron plates.
