Illustration signed and dated in lower right corner "Alan E. Cober '73." With permission from the National Park Service, this illustration was framed by the artist and entered into the May 1975 Society of Illustrators show. Illustration includes poster mechanical of one-ply foam core board measuring 42-1/4" x 32-3/8" with Photostat of art and text copy applied. The mechanical includes an acetate overlay to which is affixed in position Alan E. Cober's published script sections. On a separate board measuring 15-7/8" x 9-3/16" is the small reproducible copy line for the poster title. To retain the integrity of the script components and the poster layout, the complete mechanical is retained with the original artwork. Also included with the final illustration are four unpublished script sections of ink on watercolor paper in the artist’s hand reading: "By 1732 the Washingtons were an old Virginia family, proud of the work they had done in building the colony"; "Tobacco swiftly wore out the soil, but 200 years ago, land seemed unlimited"; "Meat was an important item in the diet, along with large quantities of bread and"; and "…since the time of Washington's…y. The past is forever unretrievable …ate those bygone days."; Abbr=PUB
