Army of the Potomac (Eastern) Theater of the Civil War
Army of the Potomac (Eastern) Theater of the Civil War
The eastern theater base art allows for presentation of the Army of the Potomac's actions. The illustrated land masses show major drainage and political boundaries pertinent to the principle Civil War actions.
Project History: Developmental work, prepared under the R.R. Donnelley and Sons Indefinite Quantity contract, began in 1988 for which a proposed quotation of $6,670.00 was provided. Sid Marland enlisted the services of Ms. Ellen Kuzdro to visualize an oblique view of the Eastern Theater as prelude to the design and layout of the brochure (concept rough measures 29-1/2" x 39-3/4"). Upon agreement of orientation and scale, the NPS contracted directly with Lloyd Kenneth Townsend for final illustrations. Included with the final illustration are preliminary roughs: one high contrast palette rough (12-1/2" x 16") and one neutral contrast palette rough (11-15/16" x 15-13/16") both prepared for the Eastern theater base. The base illustrations were then provided to R.R. Donnelley and Sons by the NPS for the production of two mapping units. Color separation, troop movements and other cultural data were added by traditional cartographic methods to the base art, stripping to brochure layout, and final process-color graphic films were delivered to the NPS under 1443-PX-1100-91-4134.; Abbr=PUB
