All together (pack of wolves howling).
All together (pack of wolves howling).
Illustration transferred November 2017 to NPS History Collection. Illustration drawn from extensive field observations and photographs. Biologist and artist Olaus J. Murie, with his brother Adolph, pioneered the research methods, eventually known as "bedroll biology", in the study of wolves in parklands. The wolf study and book by Adolph Murie were instrumental in changing wildlife management practices in the National Park Service, specifically the view of predators and their ecological role. The Murie brothers were employed by the government during much of the this time. This artwork represents premier animal studies and the beginning of world-wide recognition of new theories in wildlife management.; Abbr=PUB
