A great spangled fritillary (Speyeria cybele), Valley Forge National Historical Park, 2014.
From a distance, it may be hard to distinguish the great spangled fritillary from the similarly brightly-colored monarch butterfly. However, fritillaries tend to fly faster with more rapid beats while the monarch butterfly glides between wing beats.
