This is an historic black and white photograph from the Scotty's Castle Historic Photograph Collection, Death Valley National Park of a large, complex, Spanish-style structure newly constructed with some on-going construction. Scotty’s Castle Main House with octagon-shaped room on left, flying buttress front porch towards right, square Observation tower on right. Scaffold, ladders scattered around foreground. Other structures in distance on right. Desert hillsides in background.

Annex Music Room, Organ Blower Room, and 1st Pipe Room constructed but no tile roof or stucco. Rock Gas tank set horizontal on wood platform. Wheelbarrow and other construction tools and supplies stacked around base. Enclosed Patio arch does not have lattice gate. Black and white, horizontal format. Inscription in black ink on reverse: The lower or West end of building. First unit on right 2nd unit on left. Note the railing on bridge connecting the two. The arch is entrance to driveway between the two units. The tank contains what is called Roc Gass and is being used at the present time for domestic use while the Johnsons are here. Inscription probably by Hale Daggett, a carpenter at Death Valley Ranch. Printed several times in black on reverse: Velox. Stamped in purple: 294.
