This is an historic black and white photograph from the Scotty's Castle Historic Photograph Collection, Death Valley National Park of man posing for camera in front of metal shack on rock foundation with pump equipment on deck in front. Shack is made of corrugated tin. Wood platform with ladder from ground holds equipment. Metal, two-wheel equipment, probably pump, on platform. Man dressed in hat, simple shirt, jeans with cuff rolled up.

Heavy cast iron piece of equipment, probably a pump, with two fly wheels set on wood platform even with shed doorway. Wood ladder to platform. Box type wood structure in front of equipment. Wagon wheel leaning against rock wall. Inscription in black ink on obverse lower edge: Gold Crater Well 5-2-31. Black and white, horizontal format. All the wells and springs in this series of photographs are near the Kawich Range in Nevada that Johnson purchased for horse range and water rights.
