Stumbling Blocks
Stumbling Blocks
In this address, Maggie L. Walker first talks about the stumbling blocks that can lead to problems with in a family. She speaks about marrying too soon, alcoholism, infidelity, and lack of children in a marriage. She councils the audience in how to have a successful and happy marriage. Then she speaks about the stumbling blocks that happen in the African-American community that hinder the progress of African-Americans. She speaks about how African-Americans support white businesses instead of African-American businesses in Richmond. She argues that if African-Americans would use African-American businesses, banks and insurance companies it would help to lift up the community and create jobs for future generations.
