A large stone monument sits on top of a crumbling asphalt base. In the lower portion of the photograph two metal signs read “Sykes Avenue” and “Landscape Restoration Stay On Paved Walkways.” A dirt trail leads up to the base of the stone monument through a wooded area.
Visitors had created a social trail leading up from Sykes Avenue to the 44th New York monument. This led to erosion and the destruction of native plant species.
