Spider (Araneae), Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, 2015.
A spider's web has three functions: intercepting prey, absorbing its momentum without breaking and finally, trapping the prey by entangling it or just sticking to it. No one web design is best and there are many reasons spiders make webs of one design or another. For example, by spacing web lines farther apart the web will cover more area and have more chance to intercept prey; however, it will also increase the chance of a prey breaking loose.
