Ruby-crowned kinglet (Regulus calendula) at Slough Creek, Yellowstone National Park, 2015.
Interestingly, they often perform the "broken-wing" act commonly attributed to plovers. This act is meant to draw predators away from their nest, which they will defend fearlessly by mobbing the intruder which may be a cat, squirrel or human.
