Lower Half of a Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Medal

This is the bottom half of a gilded bronze GAR medal consisting of the 5-pointed star with each point of the star representing each branch of the U.S. Military at the time surrounding the seal of the GAR and the inscribed legend, Grand Army of the Republic, 1861 Veterans -1866. This artifact was also found on the left coat lapel of a United States Colored Troops (USCT) veteran who died and was buried in 1890-1891 in the Vicksburg National Cemetery.
