9-14-1947 6 ... of Minority Groups Essential to American Democracy. Mrs. Jeanetta T. Jones served as program co-ordinator and Mrs. Helen Graham as registrar. The Chicago Metropolitan Council was honored with having as our guest speaker one of America's distinguished liberal and constructive thinkers Dr. T. U. Smith, professor of philosophy at the University of Chicago, professor emeritus of World Philosophers, ex-congressman and author of several books. Professor Smith chose as his subject: "Minority Groups in the Struggle for Integration." The highlights of his address are as follows "We must learn to meet each other as neighbors. We must have a spirit of compromise, a desire to go halfway, even when the position is a bit lopsided, or integration in itself is a doomed program. Being sent to Japan for educational purposes. Professor Smith found the Japanese are striving to be a model conquered people, the question is are we a model conquering nation? A domestic policy should be the practice of good manners
