Morning sunlight streams over clusters of deep purple flowers atop a large, branching, red stem.
As the name suggests, tall ironweed is a towering plant reaching heights upwards of seven feet. Its vibrant purple flowers are popular with native pollinators such as butterflies and bees. Tall ironweed usually blooms from late August to mid-October. It prefers to grow in moderately moist open woodlands, meadows, and pastures. It can be found in many places within Cuyahoga Valley, including Boston Mill Visitor Center, Kendall Hills, Stanford Trail, and the Brandywine Falls area.
