Swainson's hawk (Buteo swainsoni), City of Rocks National Reserve, 2015.
It is coloquially known as the grasshopper hawk or locust hawk because it will voraciously eat these insects whenever they are available. Find the Swainson's hawk in North American mainly in spring and summer and in South American during winter. This bird has probably the longest migration route of any North American raptor (as long as 23,000 km or 14,000 miles).
