Album: Dr. Cross' Medical Equipment

Homestead National Historical Park

This is a collection of medical equipment owned by Dr. Leroy J. Cross. Dr. Cross was a physician and druggist based in DeWitt, Nebraska during the 1870's until the 1900's. He studied medicine in Iowa from 1862 to 1866. In 1870 he moved to Swan City, Nebraska to begin practicing medicine on his own. About a year later, he moved south to DeWitt, Nebraska. Dr. Cross was the primary physician in Saline County, Nebraska for six years. This was a very rural county at the time and he would have treated many homesteaders. He opened up a drug store in 1877 and then focused much of this time on that business. This collection was donated to Homestead National Historical Park by Dr. Harvey D. Runty in 1962.
