Album: Tassi Ranch Cultural Landscape

Parashant National Monument

Tassi Ranch stretches approximately 200 acres across the Mojave Desert within the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. In the first half of the twentieth century, ranchers in northwestern Arizona faced unique challenges due to the rough and remote desert environment. Bordered by steep canyons and the Grand Wash Cliffs to the east, ranch buildings are clustered around the Tassi Springs, a shady oasis in a desert dominated by creosote bush land. Today, Tassi Ranch still displays many of the distinctive features that characterized early twentieth century ranching in Northern Arizona, such as natural topography, ranch developments, and organization around water.
