North Cascades National Park
Photographs of the Buckner Homestead and Orchard, located near Stehekin and Lake Chelan within Washington's North Cascades National Park. The orchard was planted in 1912. The NPS continues to maintain Buckner Orchard as an working apple operation. Still sizable and thriving, the orchard represents the early entrepreneurial farming that was characteristic to rural Pacific Northwest communities during that era. Remnants of the homestead's past, including the orchard, building structures, and farm equipment, continue to provide a suggestion of the landscape's appearance and use in the early 1900s. Autumn visitors are welcome to a taste of the ripe harvest!
