Natchez Trace Parkway
This gallery documents an evolution of perception. The photos, assembled from Natchez Trace Parkway’s archival photo collection, record African Americans connected to the Parkway. The historic photo descriptions are mostly taken from the cards and initially depict individuals as unnamed novelties. Dehumanizing descriptions follow. Finally African Americans were documented as valued coworkers, including the Parkway’s top leader, the Superintendent.
