Cuyahoga Valley National Park
This 2020 project, led by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and its partners, is a critical step in restoring the Cuyahoga to health. See the progress photos as the Pinery Dam and the Brecksville Diversion Dam were documented and demolished in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Now the river flows freely below Akron for the first time in almost 200 years. In January 2022, a custom-built screw pump was set in place near the Pinery Feeder Gate to move river water into the Ohio & Erie Canal. It began operating in late 2023.
