Artists conjure the imagination, stir up our senses and transport us through space and time to the mystery of each park’s unique sense of place. As Linda Hogan, a Native American storyteller, writes “There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story”. As artists spend concentrated time in America’s national parks , they pay attention to the stories of each individual place, but also to the dialogue unfolding in their inner lives. Artists talk about the kinds of self discovery manifested in their journeys, a self-awareness and a connection to deep ideas that happens.
