Kalaupapa National Historical Park

Images of the current Kalaupapa Settlement. The original Hansen's disease settlement was located on the other side of the peninsula (the east side), which is wetter and windier. People and facilities moved to the west side of the Kalaupapa Peninsula by the 1890s where the weather was warmer and drier. Most of the standing buildings on the peninsula today are on the west side of the Kalaupapa Peninsula, the location of today's settlement.
