Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, the first Native American cabinet member in U.S. History, visited Acadia National Park June 17-18, 2021 accompanied by Shannon Estenoz, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish Wildlife and Parks. It was Haaland's first official visit as Secretary to one of America's 63 national parks. The entire Maine Congressional delegation welcomed her, including U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, U.S. Representatives Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden, as well as Maine Governor Janet Mills. Haaland's visit coincided with a visit by renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma, who made a series of pop-up appearances around the park with Wabanaki singers, musicians, and storytellers culminating with a performance together at sunrise June 18 in an open field outside Rockefeller Hall on the campus of the Schoodic Institute,
