Frances (Appleton) Longfellow to Harriot Coffin (Sumner) Appleton, 26 December 1851
Manuscript letter
Dear Harriot,
We reached home swiftly & safely last night, each & all delighted with their gifts & having had a most pleasant day – Baby is as bright today as if she had indulged in no such unwonted dissipation & is none the worse for it in any way.
Charley wishes me to say that he left a watch behind (like Naty’s) which he [p. 2] would like to have preserved as we shall not be in tomorrow to claim it.
I hope you have survived all the fatigues of the occasion & will long be cheered by its remembrance.
Yr aff
