Alt Text Map of Grand Portage National Monument in Minnesota. Two lines, one green and one orange, cross the northern half of North America, which is shown in butter yellow. The Hudson Bay in the upper right quadrant and other bodies of water are shown in blue. Extended Description Three sites are labeled in bold red text: Montréal and Lachine, which overlap to the east, Fort Chipewyan to the west, and Grand Portage on Lake Superior where the orange and green lines meet. The St Lawrence River, near the right edge of the map, and the Ottawa River meet at or near Montréal and Lachine. Moving west from here, the Great Lakes are labeled Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, and Lake Superior. The orange line begins in Montréal and Lachine and moves west first along the Ottawa River, north of Lake Huron, and across Lake Superior to meet the dot labeled Grand Portage. The green line traces a route between Grand Portage and Rainy Lake, Lake of the Woods, and Lake Winnipeg, where the route branches. The upper branch runs alongside the English River before splitting again. One of those arms continues west along the Athabasca River and the other moves north past Fort Chipewyan and Lake Athabasca and ends at Great Slave Lake. The second branch near Lake Winnipeg continues along the Saskatchewan River before splitting into two more arms, both reaching west.
