Alt Text Map of Saguaro West Tucson Mountain District, the western unit of Saguaro National Park in Arizona. The park is roughly square but with boxy, deeply stepped edges. Park lands are shown in varying shades of pale green, and surrounding areas are tan. Extended Description Kinney Road and Picture Rocks Road both cut through the width of the park with Kinney Road to the south and Picture Rocks Road to the north. One end of Kinney Road is in the southwest corner of the park. It continues southeast and through Tucson Mountain Park, which borders the Saguaro West Tucson Mountain District to the south. The Red Hills Visitor Center, which has a ranger station, restrooms, wheelchair access, and drinking water, is off Kinney Road near the southwest corner of the park. Now moving northwest along Kinney Road, the wheelchair-accessible Desert Discovery Nature Trail has a self-guiding trail. Kinney Road terminates at the Bajada Scenic Loop, an unpaved road that does not allow oversize vehicles, represented in bright yellow. An unpaved road branching from the top side of the loop leads to Signal Hill, which has petroglyphs, a picnic area, wheelchair access, and a self-guiding trail. A few trails crisscross the circuit. One leads to Sus, which has a picnic area, restrooms, and wheelchair access, and another leads to the self-guiding Valley View Overlook Trail. The underside of the loop, Hohokam Road, passes Apache Peak and leads to the unpaved Golden Gate Road at the top right edge of the loop. That unpaved road leads to Ez-Kim-In-Zin, which has a picnic area. Southeast of the visitor center, a cluster of short trails lead to the longer Sendero Esperanza, King Canyon, Sweetwater, Hugh Norris, and Desert Winds trails, which make a network across the map but around Wilderness Areas to the northwest and east. Trails lead to Mam-A-Gah, which has a picnic area, near the southeast corner. The Tucson Mountains arc from the lower right quadrant of the map down into Tucson Mountain Park. Cam-Boh has a picnic area, restrooms, and wheelchair access in the northern end of the park, right off Picture Rocks Road. A note along that road reads, “Vehicles over 25 feet not recommended. Weight limit 12,000 lbs. Use Avra Valley Road to enter the park from the north.” A text box to the right of the park reads, “Many park trails are not shown on this map. Obtain detailed hiking maps at visitor centers.” A few gray patches within the park are labeled “State land”. There are also a few orange areas interspersed throughout, with one area marked “Desert Station University of Arizona.” The Tohono O’Odham Nation and Tuscon Mountain Park are to the south of Saguaro West Tucson Mountain District. In the Tucson Mountain Park are the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Old Tucson Studios, and Gilbert Ray, which has campgrounds. Interstate 10 cuts diagonally across the top right corner of the map, outside park areas. Ina Road and El Camino del Cerro branch west off the interstate to reach the edge of Saguaro West Tucson Mountain District. Silverbell Road runs roughly parallel to Interstate 10 just to the west. Belmont Road also branches off to travel west to the park edge. To the west of the park Sandario Road runs north-south along the park, cutting through the sections that jut from the west edge of the park, including the area with Desert Winds Trail and the area just west of the Bajada Scenic Loop. Kinney Road angles across the southwest corner of the mountain district and continues southeast into and through Tucson Mountain Park.
