Alt Text Map of Glacier National park in Montana with a title bar that reads, “Surrounding Waterton Lakes-Glacier.” Shown in sage green, the roughly rectangular park area stretches diagonally from northwest to the southeast at the center of the map. Extended Description Surrounding the park in beige are British Columbia, Canada to the northwest, Alberta, Canada to the northeast, and the state of Montana across the lower two-thirds of the map. Scores of brown highways weave across the region with tan dots marking towns and other sites scattered throughout. In the northwestern quadrant of the map, the northern perimeter of the park runs along the Canadian border and a craggy appendage to the east extends up into Alberta, outlining Waterton Lakes National Park with the town of Waterton at the center. Circling the southern perimeter of Glacier National Park counterclockwise from the east, the towns of West Glacier, Essex, and Saint Mary are shown along US Routes 2 and 89. Parallel to the southwestern edge of the park, a wisp of blue locates Hungry Horse Reservoir. Along the eastern perimeter of Glacier National Park in the US, a tan area shows Blackfeet Indian Reservation covering a slightly larger region than the park. A tan dot in the northwest corner of the reservation marks the town of Babb, while the town of Browning is shown in the south-central region along US Route 89 near its intersection with US Route 2. Two other tan areas along the north central edge of the map include a small rectangle labeled, “Piikani Reserve,” and an apostrophe-shaped region labeled, “Kainai Nation (Blood Tribe).” A tan dot near the southern tip of Kainai Nation marks Cardston at the confluence of Highway 5 running west, Highway 4 running northeast to Lethbridge, and Highway 2 running north to Calgary. Along the south-central perimeter of the map in Montana, another tan rectangle marks Flathead Reservation with Flathead Lake scooping down into the northeast corner along US route 93. State Route 28 runs through the middle of the area from the west, forking at the lake where it runs down to the city of Polson. Curving around Flathead Lake to the east, State Route 30 runs off the map toward Interstate 90 and Missoula. Other tan dots in the surrounding Montana region mark cities and towns from west to east as follows: Troy on US Route 2 near the junction of State Route 56; Libby at the intersection of the 2 and State Route 37, which runs north along Lake Koocanusa; Eureka at the northern end of the 37 where it intersects with US Route 93; Whitefish along the 93 where it scoops to the southwest of Glacier National Park; Kalispell a jog to the south along US Route 2; Columbia Falls on US Route 93 between Whitefish and the park; Choteau along US Route 89 in the southeast corner of the map; Cutbank along US Route 2 just east of Blackfeet Indian Reservation; and Sweet Grass along the US-Canada border to the northeast on Interstate 15, which runs north toward Medicine Hat in Canada and south toward Great Falls. Two tan dots marking locations across the Canadian region of the map are shown as the city of Fernie to the northwest off Highway 3 in British Columbia and the town of Pincher Creek near the center along Highway 6 just west of Piikani Reserve. Legend A scale in the lower left corner of the map measures distances of 40 kilometers and 40 miles.
