Alt Text Area map for Fort Caroline National Memorial in Florida. The park is a small dark green patch within the much larger Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve. Both the park and preserve are hemmed in by the Nassau River to the north, the St Johns River to the southwest, and the Atlantic Ocean in parts to the east. Extended Description The map shows major roads of this section of North Florida, with State Route A1A running horizontally near the top and Interstate 95 running down the left side. The Timucuan preserve is a bulbous backward C-shape on the Atlantic coast, with its upper arm stretching west just beyond Interstate 95 and its bottom arm stretching over to Interstate 295. The St Johns River comes up as a thick S-shape in the bottom left corner, continuing up through Jacksonville and spreading out into smaller tributaries around the bottom edges of the Timucuan preserve. These veinlike waterways suffuse the preserve land and eventually lead out to the Atlantic Ocean, which runs down the right side of the map. Roads State Route A1A goes across the top of the map, then runs north and south, hugging the Atlantic coast. Near the bottom of the preserve, the road curves around the river heading east, above Fort Caroline, after which it is labeled State Route 105. Interstate 95 comes down from the top left and heads south, passing Jacksonville International Airport to the west, then veering southeast near the St John’s River and off the bottom of the map. US Highway 17 starts further east, crossing over the preserve and continuing south. South of the airport, Interstate 295 comes in from the left edge of the map, heads east, then curves south before it reaches the preserve area. Near the bottom of the map, it curves west off the left edge. Near 295, US Highway 17 meets New Berlin Road, which continues east to meet Cedar Point Road, which leads into the middle of the preserve. Above the thicker part of the St Johns River, US Highway Alternate Route 1 curves southeast and crosses with State Route 115, which connects north to Merrill Road and Fort Caroline Road, which in turn leads to the Fort Caroline National Memorial. Those roads also connect to Monument Road and Girvin Road, which link down to State Route 10. State Route 10, also labeled Atlantic Boulevard, starts from Interstate 95 heading east toward the coast, where it links with State Route A1A. Parallel below State Route 10, US Highway 90 stretches from State Route A1A and heads west, crossing paths with Alternate US Route 90 and linking back up with Alternate US Route 1. From Merrill Road, Alternate Route 90 heads south, and after crossing with US Highway 90, it is labeled State Route 115. As such, it next crosses State Route 202, which connects east to State Route A1A. Legend A scale in the lower right corner of the map shows distances of 5 kilometers and 5 miles.
