Extended Description Catoctin Mountain Park angles from the top left corner of the map down and to the right in the upper two-thirds of the map. Most of the labeled features, trails, and roads are along the bottom half of Catoctin Mountain Park (National Park Service) and the northern and southern tips of Cunningham Falls State Park (Maryland Park Service). This description will work from west to east across Catoctin Mountain Park before moving down to Cunningham Falls State Park. Then the contents of a table in the upper right corner and a legend in the lower left corner will be transcribed. Catoctin Mountain Park Owens Creek, which has public campgrounds and wheelchair access, is about a quarter of the way across Catoctin Mountain Park from the west edge. The Cactoctin National Recreation Trail and Deerfield Nature Trail Loop pass through this area and reach Poplar Grove, which has public campgrounds. Owens Creek is just off Foxville Deerfield Road, which runs diagonally up the height of the park. Parking is available near a Sawmill on the creek. Owens Creek Browns Farm Trail is farther south and has parking and picnic areas. Park Central Road branches off Foxville Deerfield Road near the southern edge and snakes across the central half of the park. Park Central Road passes Round Meadow, which has wheelchair access and a cabin camp near parking. To the east and north of Park Central Road, Chestnut has the wheelchair-accessible Spicebush Natural Trail along with parking and picnic areas. South of Chestnut and the park road, Greentop has a cabin camp and wheelchair access. Farther east, the Hog Rock Nature Trail, part of which is marked as being steep, intersects the Park Central Road and leads to the scenic viewpoint at Hog Rock south of the road and Blue Ridge Summit Overlook north of the road. Parking is available here and two locations before Misty Mount Cabins with a cabin camp. Trails wind east along and around the Park Central Road, which turns south to meet the Visitor Center, which has a ranger station and wheelchair access, along the southern border. The southeastern lobe of the park has the Catoctin Mountain Park Headquarters, Chimney Rock with a scenic viewpoint, two parking areas, and more trails. Cunningham Falls State Park State Route 77 runs east-west across the map until it meets the southern edge of Catoctin Mountain Park and divides the right half of the park from Cunningham Falls State Park to the south. Many of the sites in Cunningham Falls State Park are in a triangular area at the northwest, edged to the north by State Route 77 and along the far side by Catoctin Hollow Road. Within this area, from west to east, are Cunningham Falls; the William Houck Area, which has public campgrounds; wheelchair access; and a Store. Features around Hunting Creek Lake in the northeast corner include a Contact Station, parking, Snack bar, Boat rental, picnic area, a Boat launch, and a Fishing pier. The Cunningham Falls State Park Administrative Office is just across the Catoctin Hollow Road near the launch and pier. The Catoctin National Recreation Trail and Falls Nature Trail cross the bulk of Cunningham Falls State Park. More sites clustered near the southern tip include Manor Area with public campgrounds, a playground, parking, Visitor Center, picnic area, Scales and Tales Aviary, Catoctin Furnace Trail, pedestrian bridge over road, Catoctin Iron Furnace with parking, and Catoctin Furnace. The rows read as follows: Under Easy, the Hiking trail/destination for Blue Blazes Whiskey Still is 0.6 miles round trip, and the starting point is the Visitor Center, Blue Ridge Summit Overlook is 0.6 miles starting at Hog Rock Parking Lot, Brown’s Farm is 0.4 miles starting at Owens Creek Picnic Area, Charcoal is 0.5 miles starting at Thurmont Vista Parking Lot, Hog Rock is 1.0 miles starting at Hog Rock Parking Lot, and Spicebush, which is wheelchair accessible, is 0.2 miles starting at Chestnut Picnic Area. Under Moderate, Cunningham Falls is 2.8 miles starting at the Visitor Center, Deerfield Nature Trail is 1.3 miles starting at Owens Creek Campground, and Thurmont Vista is 1.0 miles starting at Thurmont Vista Parking lot. Under Strenuous, Chimney Rock is 2.2 miles starting at Park Headquarters, Gateway is 3.9 miles starting at Lewis Property or Chimney Rock Trail, and Wolf Rock is 1.8 miles starting at Wolf Rock Parking Lot.
