Alt Text Detail map of Mesa Verde Museum at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado showing the park road’s path down Chapin Mesa, including Mesa Verde Museum, trails, and other park features. The terrain is shaded green and roads represented with gray lines. Extended Description The park road enters the map from the top middle edge and quickly reaches an all-way stop. The road splits off to the left and forms a narrow, elongated banana shape around several park features starting with a picnic area and restrooms near a parking area. From here, Spruce Canyon Trail, 2.4 miles (3.9 kilometers) long, begins and heads north, then cuts back down sharply, roughly following the shape of the road while hugging the curved natural break between mesas. About halfway down the map, the trail scoops back up, mirroring the road, where it leads up to the Mesa Verde Museum, while linking with other trail pathways that also lead to the nearby Spruce Tree House cliff dwelling. From the museum, Petroglyph Point Trail, 2.4 miles (3.9 kilometers) long, leads down to create a skinny, stringy loop that reaches its lowest point more than three-quarters of the way down the mesa. Back at the top side of the park road near the picnic area, the road continues down an amphitheater before hooking back up to access the Mesa Verde Museum, which has information and a park store near a parking area. Continuing north are restrooms followed by Spruce Tree Terrace at 7,000 feet (2,134 meters), which has food services and a gift shop. The road meets itself again at the all-way stop. Another road travels south over the Chapin Mesa from this point. Nearly halfway down the map, another road intersects and heads east. Legend A scale at the bottom of the map shows distances of 0.5 kilometers and 0.5 miles.
