Extended Description Padre Island National Seashore continues a line of islands that begin in the upper right corner of the map. Sites on islands north of the park include Port Aranas, State Route 361, Mustang Island State Park, State Route 358, and Padre Balli County Park (Bob Hall Pier). State Route 22 continues into the park and to Park Headquarters on Malaquite Beach. Farther down, the Mansfield Channel separates Padre Island from South Padre Island. The red text here reads, “No possible crossing by vehicle.” The southern end of Padre Island and the South Padre Island are separated from Texas by Laguna Madre. State Route 48 runs along the southern half of South Padre Island and passes Port Isabel and Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site on the mainland. Now traveling south along the western coast of mainland Texas from north to south include Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, State Route 35, the town of Rockport, Aransas Pass across from Port Aransas, US Route 181, Corpus Christi, Port Mansfield, State Route 186, and Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. US Route 77 runs parallel to the coastline farther inland. Interstate 37 travels northwest from Corpus Christi and continues “To San Antonio” off the top left corner of the map. US Route 77 connects Kingsville near Corpus Christi and Harlingen to the south. US Route 83 travels west from Harlingen, just north of the Rio Grande and the USA-Mexico border. Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Site is marked with a green dot just north of Brownsville near the bottom center of the map, and Brazos Island State Park is on the coastline on the border. The state of Tamaulipas is labeled in Mexico south of the border. Legend A scale in the top left corner of the map measures distances of 10 and 50 kilometers and 10 and 50 miles.
