Black lines indicate the boundaries of the tectonic plates, which generally but don’t entirely follow the coastlines of the continents. The Eurasian Plate in the top left corner of the map encompasses Europe and Asia down to near Australia. The Indo-Australian Plate in the bottom left curves around Australia but also reaches north to include India. Lassen Peak is on the west coast of the North American Plate in the top right corner.
